Wimbledon 2021: Women's Singles Draw Prediction

With the 2021 Wimbledon Championships set to begin on Monday, here is a look at the possible later round matchups from the women's singles draw.

World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty is bidding to win her first Wimbledon title, while seven-time champion Serena Williams continues her quest to tie Margaret Court's record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles.

Top half

Top seed Barty looks to have been given a manageable draw – though she has not played since retiring from her second round French Open match with a hip issue.

If fit, the 25-year-old should beat Carla Suarez Navarro in the opening round, and would likely be too strong for Anna Blinkova or Timea Babos in the second round.

The Australian would then probably have a tougher third round test – with 2017 semi-finalist Johanna Konta, Katerina Siniakova and two-time quarter-finalist Coco Vandeweghe possible opponents.

Barty would most likely face 14th seed and French Open champion Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round, before Victoria Azarenka or Bianca Andreescu in the last eight.

Sixth seed Serena Williams would arguably be Barty's most probable semi-final adversary.

The American should come through Aliaksandra Sasnovich at the first hurdle, and likely Bernarda Pera in the second round, without too much trouble.

The seven-time winner would then potentially face a tougher third round test against 2018 champion Angelique Kerber – though the German is short of form.

Ninth seed Belinda Bencic or 20th seed Coco Gauff could provide another challenge in the last 16, before a quarter-final clash with third seed and 2019 semi-finalist Elina Svitolina. 16th seed Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, or 19th seed Karolina Muchova – both former quarter-finalists – are the other most likely potential last eight opponents.

Bottom half

The bottom half looks tougher to call, though 10th Petra Kvitova perhaps stands out as the player to come through the top quarter.

The two-time champion has a tough start against US Open winner Sloane Stephens, but should have the edge on grass.

The Czech would probably face Britain's Heather Watson in the second round, and Jessica Pegula in the third round.

Eighth seed and countrywoman Karolina Pliskova would be a likely fourth round opponent – though there is no guarantee the 29-year-old would get through Donna Vekic and Alison Riske on recent form.

Fourth seed Sofia Kenin or 13th seed Elise Mertens would most probably be Kvitova's quarter-final opponent.

The ultra-consistent Mertens is perhaps the likeliest to make the last eight – with Madison Keys and Kenin looking like the biggest hurdles.

In the bottom quarter, seventh seed Iga Swiatek and 11th seed Garbine Muguruza look set to fight for a quarter-final berth.

If healthy, 2017 champion Muguruza should be the stronger of the two at the All England Club – after likely facing earlier tests from Svetlana Kuzentsova and Ons Jabeur.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenka appears to have a good chance to reach her first Major quarter-final – with Ekaterina Alexandrova representing the first real test in the third round.

The Belarusian would have a tough potential fourth round matchup against 15th seed Maria Sakkari or 18th seed Elena Rybakina.

Sabalenka and Kvitova look the most likely finalists from the bottom-half, and could face either Barty or Williams in the title match.
